Moku Moʻolelo Media Training
The Mapunapuna district sits within the historic Moanalua–Keehi ahupuaʻa — a place shaped by generations of workers, families, cultural practitioners, and community stewards. We invite the business community to join us in supporting a program that empowers local veterans to document the stories of this place through culturally grounded media training.
About the Program
The Moku Moʻolelo Media Training Program provides veterans with:
- Training in video production, audio storytelling, and digital media
- Cultural grounding in moʻolelo and place-based knowledge
- Opportunities to document the history and identity of Mapunapuna
- A pathway to meaningful skill-building and community contribution
This initiative is delivered in partnership with ʻŌlelo Community Media, cultural practitioners, and the VA.
Why Your Support Matters
Training is delivered through our partnership with ʻŌlelo Community Media. Public donations fund what comes next — the public-facing media development that carries Kona Moku stories to broader audiences:
- Produce place-based films and video featuring Kona Moku stories
- Build a digital archive of Mapunapuna and Kalihi Kai stories within the Moanalua district and ahupuaʻa, including the community impacts of Transit Oriented Development
- Distribute completed productions through ʻŌlelo Community Media and other public broadcast channels
- Cover post-production costs — editing, captioning, music licensing, and accessibility
- Develop educational outreach materials drawn from each production
- Produce media honoring the legacy of VA heroes and the ongoing efforts to memorialize them at our host site, Keehi Memorial
- Sustain ongoing media development connected to the Keehi Memorial Site
This is an investment in people, place, and the future of our community's stories.
Support the Program
Contributions support a dedicated fund for Kona Moku storytelling and educational outreach — financing the public-facing media productions that follow each training cohort. As public broadcasting and community media face growing pressure, viewer and donor support is what keeps these voices on the air. Gifts are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
